Book a Creative Art Workshop

Discover the Gallery with your group by booking a talk or free creative art workshop at the Gallery or at your community organisation. These artist-led talks and workshops are popular with adults and elders and each is tailor-made to suit your group’s needs, abilities and interests.

Choose from a selection of two talks and workshops:

Introducing...the National Portrait Gallery
Over 400 years of British history is told through portraits of inspirational people. Discover the Gallery’s fascinating Collection of people and their stories.

What’s in a Portrait?
Discover what a portrait says about you by exploring pose, expression, clothing, background, accessories and composition.

These 90 min. talks and workshops are available Monday – Friday. Outreach workshops are available for groups in London working with adults and elders unable to visit the Gallery. The Outreach workshops explore a range of different themes including Adventures and Explorers, Fame and Celebrity, Families, Fashion through the Ages, Heroes and Villains, People and Animals.

CPD Events

Discover the Gallery and all the resources available to you and your group from our programme of art workshops and the public programme of events, to creative ideas and activities for you to explore the Gallery’s Collection with your group. These practical, activity-based events are led by Gallery staff and artists.

Continued Professional Development events for group leaders are free and take place twice a year in spring and autumn for group leaders working with adult and elders groups.

ESOL Resources

Explore the Gallery with your ESOL group using our free activity resource packs. Explore a range of subjects including the Tudors, Victorians, equality and architecture. Each resource includes teachers’ notes and pre and post visit activities. They were developed in collaboration with the Institute of Education, NIACE and ESOL teachers in Hackney and Westminster.
