Sporting Heroes, Coventry Technical College
The Education Department ran a series of portrait photography workshops for A level/GNVQ groups in response to the exhibition 'British Sporting Heroes' (16 October 1998 - 24 January 1999). The exhibition explores the popularity of competitive sports performers from the 18th century through to the present day. Students began by visiting the exhibition before working with 5"x4" studio cameras and studio flash lights in the Gallery's Clore Education Studio. Each student was encouraged to bring in a prop which reflected their relationship with sport, as participants, spectators or of those with a loathing of all things sporting. The photographs reflect a wide range of responses as well as a diversity of photographic styles.
