Arts Award Welcome

Our Arts Award Welcome is as follows aimed in particular at 14-21 year olds:

  • Online resources - take a look at and search for British men and women from the sixteenth century to the present day online at Search the Collection and check out our resources at Digital Resources

  • Portrait Explorer - this interactive system, based at the Gallery, allows more in-depth research into portraits in our Collection including interviews with artists and sitters. You can also create your own personalised tour of portraits on display, and obtain free black and white prints for most portraits.

  • Meet the Artist - did you know that we offer young people a unique opportunity to meet one of the Gallery's exhibiting artists? You will be given free access to the artist through an exclusive presentation of their work and have the opportunity to ask them questions.

  • Youth Forum - an opportunity to join this peer-led advisory panel for the Gallery who are involved in behind-the-scenes work. The four key words they use to describe what they do are: participate, innovate, articulate and create. The young people run their own events to make the Gallery a more youth-friendly place. Future ideas include developing their online presence and creating resources, including young people's audio guides/podcasts. For more information email rmoss@npg.org.uk

In particular the Gallery's Collection is inspiring for the Arts Heroes and Heroines unit for the bronze award - take a look for your favourite musicians (Dizzee Rascal), dancers (Darcey Bussell), artists (Tracey Emin), fashion designers (Vivienne Westwood) and writers (William Shakespeare).
