Richard Dighton 1796?-1880

NPG D10751
'A Walk from Bridge Street to St John's Hall' ,Sir Isaac Pennington (1745-1817), published 1815

Physician. He entered St John's College, Cambridge as a student in 1762, becoming a fellow in 1768 and was made Regius Professor of medicine in 1793. Pennington resided at 69 Bridge Street, Cambridge, hence the title of this print.

1815 is the earliest year that Richard Dighton's name can be found on a published etching. There is a certain ability and flair demonstrated in this early etching which is perhaps not apparent in his later works.
