'The Steward of the Course', Sir (Thomas) Charles Bunbury, 6th Bt (1740-1821), published 1802

'Father of the turf', Bunbury was well known in fashionable and sporting circles. He owned the horse 'Diomed' which won the Derby Stakes in 1780 and 'Eleanor' which won the Derby and the Oaks in 1801. He was MP for Suffolk for forty years.

He married Lady Sarah Lennox, daughter of Charles, 2nd Duke of Richmond but the marriage was dissolved by act of parliament in 1776.
