The Impossibility of Neutrality: Photography after the Document
What is photographic documentation today? Is its meaning
ever 'neutral?' How is it read and what might be its potential
applications? This one-day conference explores emerging aspects
of the document, its distribution and its status in related media,
and questions the supposed natural link between photography,
neutrality and the author. Speakers include: Howard Caygill (Goldsmiths
College), Elizabeth Edwards (London College of Communication),
Carol Mavor (University of Manchester), Gary Nickard (State University
of New York at Buffalo), Amy Rosenblum-Martín (Independent
Curator from New York), Ralph Rugoff (Director, Hayward Gallery)
and Val Williams (Photography and the Archive Research Centre).
