NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY
MARKETING OFFICER (AUDIENCE
DEVELOPMENT)
Full-time fixed term contract for 3 years
The National Portrait Gallery
has created this new post as part of its ongoing commitment to
developing new and diverse audiences. An integral member of the
Communications & Development Department the post holder will
work in close collaboration with the Marketing Manager to deliver
a full range of marketing activities, with a specific focus on
understanding and attracting under-represented audiences.
Responsible to: Marketing Manager
Main Duties:
Planning and Co-ordination (60%)
- Maximise the audience development
potential of the Gallery's varied programme of exhibitions, events
and displays by devising and implementing campaigns to target
new audiences such as culturally diverse groups, families and
young people
- Review the Gallery's current
audience development marketing activity, research under-represented
audiences and develop fresh approaches for attracting key target
groups
- Establish effective working
relationships between the Marketing team and the Learning and
Access Department and ensure there is a connected and integrated
approach to targeting key audiences
- Review the format and distribution
of the Gallery's quarterly Exhibitions, Talks and Events brochure
and plan a forward strategy for this key marketing tool
- Build relationships with relevant
organisations, groups and promotional partners and liaise with
the Gallery's advertising and distribution agencies
- Manage the Gallery's monthly
e-newsletters and other e-promotions as necessary and actively
develop e-marketing
- Assess and review the Gallery's
current contact databases, manage and build relevant mailing
lists and plan direct mail campaigns
Production (20%)
- Oversee the production and distribution
of audience development marketing print, including the Gallery's
quarterly events brochure, working closely with all relevant
departments to collate information on exhibitions, displays and
events and liaising with external designers and printers
- With the Marketing Team, and
other members of staff as appropriate, develop and maintain a
strong working relationship with the designers and printers on
the Gallery's roster
Administrative (15%)
- Work closely with the Digital
Programmes Department to maintain up-to-date editorial content
for the Marketing presence on the website
- Plan and prepare audience development
print with relevant departments (oversee the distribution, collate
copy, brief designers and liaise with printers), ensuring the
optimum quality and value for money
- Work with the Marketing Manager
on the Gallery's visitor and market research programme
- Liaise closely with the Marketing
Manager, Head of Department and the fundraising team to ensure
that sponsors' requirements are fulfilled.
- Work with the Marketing Officer
to ensure all marketing activity is co-ordinated and fits the
department's main aims and objectives.
- Assist the Marketing Manager
as necessary.
Other (5%)
- Occasional evening working will
be required to help with Public Relations & Development evening
functions.
This is not an exhaustive

MARKETING OFFICER (AUDIENCE
DEVELOPMENT)
Details of the post are given

Term of appointment
This post is fixed for
a period of 3 years.
Hours
Your contracted hours
of work are 40 gross per week, from Monday to Friday, including
a lunch break of one hour a day.
Pay
The salary for this post
will be £19,111 per annum.
Annual Leave
Your annual leave allowance
is 28 days per annum rising to 29 days per annum following the
completion of 2 years service.
Place of Work
Most of the work is based
in the Gallery at St Martin's Place, but all staff are required
occasionally to work at other locations if necessary.

Probation and Trial Period
All appointments are
subject to satisfactory employment and character references and
security clearance. There is a probationary period of 1 year
for all permanent posts.

Information provided
