Working for the National Portrait
Gallery
Introduction
Working for the National Portrait
Gallery offers you a unique opportunity to gain experience and
develop skills in a nationally renowned museum. Employees are
part of a modern and changing organisation that welcomes over
1.3 million visitors a year and has an international reputation.
We pride ourselves on having a workforce that is friendly, committed
and hard working. Although the Gallery is a small organisation
we have a wide range of job types from educationalists to front
of house assistants and from IT specialists to curators, with
many others besides.
The Gallery aims to be a good
employer with fair employment practices and personnel policies
to support this ambition. As a prospective employee you would
need to be committed to ensuring that all individuals are treated
with respect and valued for their contribution.
Employment Package
We offer a comprehensive employment
package, including:
- competitive basic salary
- a final salary pension scheme
with low employee contribution rates
- competitive annual holiday entitlement
of 28 days plus all statutory Public Holidays
- work-life balance policies
- staff discounts in the Gallery's
shops and free entry to the Gallery's paying exhibitions
Some restriction may apply, depending
on length of service.
Recruitment and Equality
The Gallery is committed to providing
equality of opportunity for all staff and welcomes application
from all individuals for advertised jobs that match their skills
and interests.
It is our policy that permanent
posts are advertised nationally in press or professional journals
and on the internet, according to the nature and level of the
job. We also advertise through local job centres and with specialist
press and websites to encourage applications from groups that
are under-represented in the Gallery.
All applicants must complete
a Gallery Application Form when applying for a vacancy rather
than sending a CV. We prefer not to receive speculative enquiries
about employment in the Gallery.
The Gallery follows an equality
action plan and is a member of some national campaigns that aim
to improve opportunities for everyone, these include the Employers
Forum on Disability, Race for Opportunity and the Equality Exchange.
Culture
The Gallery's way of working
is based on:
- an organisation structure that
has the minimum number of hierarchical levels and encourages
cross functional working
- having flexible and enthusiastic
staff who identify closely with the aims and objectives of the
Gallery
- ensuring everyone that works
for the Gallery has an opportunity to express their views and
feelings about the work of the Gallery.
