Portrait Techniques: Sculpture
This one-day workshop offers an introduction to portrait sculpture
with artist Emma Middleton. Using the Gallery's Collection as
a starting point, followed by a workshop in clay modelling, participants
will create a clay bust from a life model. No previous experience
necessary and all materials are provided.

Ens Memoralis - Essence of Memory
Centred on a photograph of Queen Victoria in the Gallery's Collection,
visual artist Leo Asemota presents an extraordinary performance
in the Main Hall. Fusing poetry by Rudyard Kipling, song from
the pre-colonial Kingdom of Benin and a treatise by Walter Benjamin,
this event offers a profound meditation on the portrait as a
signifier of history,memory and cultural identity.

National Portrait Gallery Walk
Brixton
Once developed for the wealthy middle classes in the nineteenth-century,
Brixton is now famous for its vibrant, culturally mixed communities,
its markets, entertainment and nightlife. The day begins with
a lecture and tour of the Gallery, examining the personalities
associated with the area including Sir Henry Tate, John Major,
David Bowie and Naomi Campbell, and is followed by a 90-minute
guided walk led by historian and Blue Badge Guide Owen Joseph.
Travel to Brixton is not included, but the group will be accompanied
by the guide on the London Underground.

give young professional musicians a springboard into the profession.
This concert features Philippa Davies (flute) as director
