Selected Letters Letter from Henry Edward Manning to George Frederic Watts, dated 31 October 1881, claiming that the artist has mistakenly made him look like a 'mild old gentleman'.
 Letter

Archbishops House
Westminster
S.W.
Oct 31. 1881

My dear Mr Watts
If Nature writes a legible hand & Photographers do not tamper with the autograph I am afraid that I am not the mild old gentleman that you would have me believed to be.

Yours very truly
H.E. (illegible) Archbp.
