Selected Letters Letter from William Ewart Gladstone to G.F. Watts, dated 23 May 1879, arranging a sitting with the artist.

73 Hailey Ct
May 23. 79

Dear Mr Watts
I find that you require another sitting to finish the work of painting me, which I will know from long and varied experiences to be an arduous business. I know also that you like a time before luncheon better than a later time; I will

therefore, unless I hear from you to the contrary, present myself to you on Monday at noon. I think it but fair also to promise that you shall not be distracted by my yielding to the temptations which the chance of a talk with you always offers. Yours most faithfully

WE Gladstone
