Letter from sister of Alexander Stewart, dated 29 February 1904, giving a biographical account of her brother.
an arctic whale fisher sailing from Peterhead. Was born 15th Sept. 1830. When Captain Penny sailed in search of Sir John Franklin with the ships 'Lady Franklin' & 'Sophia' my brother was appointed to the command of the latter vessel. This was in the years 1850, 1851. On his return, he entered the merchant service, going first to Australia, & latterly to China.
