most rapidly painted portraits, and to support a theory that he painted best at white heat, but this was not so, it was quite usual for him to require only five sittings for a portrait. "I have tried to give it the forward look" my husband said to Mr. Crane and he replied simply 'Well, I have always looked to the future since I was a boy, and I hope I shall never give up doing so"- yrs. very sincerely M.S.
