in question is intended to
recommend a cheap edition of outlines to Students in the Art
which the Editor assures them is indispensibly requisite to forming
their taste, it is also doubly recommended to the travelling
English by its cheapness, & by the liberal praise bestowed
on their countryman - when these considerations have their due
weight it is likely enough that the remaining praise will not
be sufficient to produce giddiness even in a very weak head -
but at any rate without referring to the works of any particular
person, we know that the sure road to excellence is to study
Nature and Sentiment diligently & upon sound principles -
I remain
Sir
with great respect
your obliged servant
John Flaxman
