Letter from B.R. Haydon to William Seguier, dated 1842, responding to the accusation that he quarrels 'with all Men who are most disposed to serve me'.
Letter Lords Durham, Colborne and many other noblemen also now kind Friends - I did not quarrel with Sir Robert Peel - I believed myself right and found myself wrong and explained it to his satisfaction - I did not quarrel with you till you used me by your own account in the cruellest & most unjust manner & an old Friend who always spoke highly of you & felt warmly for you, - and when you proved what I believe you still to be - I gave up Friendship forever.
