Letter from the wife of John Britton to Sir George Scharf, director of the National Portrait Gallery, dated 27 July 1882, offering to donate the portrait of her husband to the Gallery together with her collection of engravings and autographs.

My Husbands Works are well known, in Antiquarian and Topographical circles - During his life I collected Engraved Portraits and their Autographs, of many of his contemporaries - which not having any descendant nearer than third Cousins
