Letter from the wife of John Britton to Sir George Scharf, director of the National Portrait Gallery, dated 27 July 1882, offering to donate the portrait of her husband to the Gallery together with her collection of engravings and autographs.

who care nothing about them - I shall be also glad to give into the custody of the said "Trustees" - if such collections are accepted.

My age is close on 70 and my health failing - you will perhaps guess why I wish to part with these relicks of former days -
