Letter from restorer to Sir G. Scharf, director of the National Portrait Gallery, dated 12 July 1893, stating that the condition of the portrait of the Earl of Aberdeen is so poor that they may lose it altogether.
Letter with or the picture will be lost altogether but I will do the very best I can with it, but if it should happen not to turn out satisfactory I must ask you to hold me blameless, as I can but do my very best, which I will be sure to do. I shall also be obliged to charge you £4 more for the extra time and trouble above my first estimate making £8 10 shillings in all, instad of £4 10 shillings as first mentioned. As soon as the work is completed I will let you know.

I remain Yours truly
W. Morrill
