I am not unwilling that you should retain the Portrait of Herschel
until all the Trustees have seen it. I have great faith in its
winning powers & should it be at last rejected I have other
resources. one thing is quite certain.. The Trustees will never
be able to obtain another portrait of like interest, as from
a communication I have received from Sir John Herschel, he informs
me that he know of no replica & that he possesses a Crayon
Head by Russel & also a late head done in oil as well as
