     'The NPG truly reflects Britain
     in all its quirky variety.'

     - Peter Parker ('New Statesman' 14/6/96)

In addition to all the famous portraits of famous people, the Gallery's collection includes a treasury of oddities. Lily Langtry's 'housebook' is a fine example - an album containing fascinating informal photographs of illustrious friends and family.
We have also recorded the faces of many people whose important work (as colonial administrators or civil servants, for example) or whose celebrity may long-since have faded.
