Julie Christie
(b.1940)

Born on her father's tea plantation in India, Christie made her stage debut in l957 training at the London Central School of Music and Drama. First major film success in John Schlesinger's Billy Liar (1963) and the tailor-made role in the same director's Darling (1965). Other 60s roles include Doctor Zhivago (1965) and Far from the Madding Crowd (1967).
