This one-day practical workshop with photographer Elizabeth Doak
explores the techniques and history of Fleet Street press photography
. A discussion of the works in the Daily Encounters exhibition
will be followed by a practical session 'on the street' in Fleet
Street itself. Technical tutorials on the use of digital SLR
cameras and printing facilities will be provided on the day.
No prior experience necessary.

Join in a photo shoot in response to the Daily Encounters exhibition.
Create a portrait for the front page of a tabloid newspaper and
add a scandalous headline. Led by photographer Gisela Torres.

2007, 10:30 - 15:30 National Portrait Gallery Walks Fleet Street Walk
For 500 years Fleet Street was the centre of Britain's printing
and newspaper industry. This day begins with a lecture tracing
the history of journalism in the 'Street of Ink' and a visit
to the Daily Encounters exhibition and is followed by an afternoon
walk, with Blue Badge guide and historian Owen Joseph, that explores
the alleys, squares and buildings that made Fleet Street famous.
