American Friends of the National Portrait Gallery
The National Portrait Gallery, London enjoys a close affiliation with the United States. The American Friends of the National Portrait Gallery is an independent US-based charity that builds awareness of the Gallery and its work and helps support important exhibitions and acquisitions.
Critically acclaimed exhibitions from the Gallery travel to some of the most celebrated museums and galleries in America including:
- Searching for Shakespeare (Yale Center for British Art, New Haven), 2006
- David Hockney Portraits (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and LACMA: Los Angeles County Museum of Art), 2007

Through attending special events to celebrate our touring exhibitions Americans in the USA and London have the opportunity to enjoy a close association with the Gallery and broaden their knowledge of portraiture and the Gallery's Collection.
