Enjoy breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and (on Thursday, Friday and Saturday) pre-theatre meals or dinner. You’ll find contemporary cooking, using seasonal ingredients from the UK’s most esteemed suppliers, plus desserts, cakes and pastries designed by world-renowned pastry chef Claire Clark MBE.
A stylish, sky-lit getaway from the city bustle, the Portrait Café serves quality sandwiches, salads, stews and soup as well as an enticing selection of hand-crafted cakes and pastries. Our barista-made coffee comes from Union Roasters, one of London’s premier artisan suppliers.
The Late Shift Bar
Every Thursday and Friday from 18.00 – 21.00 you can enjoy a beer, glass of prosecco, wine or a gin and tonic at the special Late Shift Bar in the Ondaatje Wing Main Hall or relax with a drink in the Bookshop Bar on Floor -3. Plus you can enjoy music from our guest DJs every Thursday. The perfect place to people-watch!
Specialising in books on British history, biography, art, photography and costume the shop also stocks a comprehensive range for children. The Bookshop offers the full range of National Portrait Gallery publications and offers an attractive location in which to browse. DVDs, CDS, posters, and magazines are on sale too and a mail order and book ordering service are also available.
The Gift Shop is located next to the main entrance, on the Gallery’s Ground Floor. The Gift Shop stocks a range of branded and unique products, prints and books inspired by the Gallery’s Collection, exhibitions and displays. Browse our selection of jewellery, stationery, postcards, exhibition catalogues and seasonal products. Using the Portrait Printer you can choose from over 75,000 Collection images and have them printed on paper or canvas to take away or order a framed print for home delivery.
