In January 1879 British forces invaded Zululand in southern Africa. Though short-lived, the war had longstanding consequences in both Africa and Europe. This display presents many of the principal figures involved in the conflict including Cetshwayo, king of the Zulu, John Chard, the hero of Rorke’s Drift, and the French Prince Imperial, whose death in the war ended the possibility of a restoration of the Bonaparte dynasty to the French throne.
