Artist Susan Aldworth discusses her display at the Gallery, Susan Aldworth: The Portrait Anatomised which has been produced as part of a commission for Guy’s and St. Thomas’s Hospital in Westminster, depicting three individuals with epilepsy. The portraits explore both the neuroscience and individual experience of epilepsy and have been developed through through drawings, photographs and interviews. These are incorporated with brain scans, each showing the brain anatomy of an individual to capture both the internal and external person. She will describe her unique approach to portraiture, from her relationship to the sitters, her innovative printmaking techniques to her interest in philosophy, epilepsy and neuroscience.
