Portrait artist Benjamin Sullivan leads a weekend-long workshop on portrait painting looking at his work and the 2013 BP Portrait Award exhibition.
The weekend will start by a look at Benjamin’s work and approach to portraiture, and a discussion on the weekend’s activity. Beginning with exercises that will help you to create work you can be proud of, you will begin by drawing before approaching paint. The afternoon and second day will be devoted to painting portraits and Benjamin’s best advice for how to create convincing work, how to work with sitters and how to complete work away from the sitter and in different situations.
The workshop will end with a group discussion on the work created so far and advice on how to take what you’ve learned out of the Gallery and into your own practice at home. The aim of the weekend workshop is for you to refresh your approach to painting portraits and improve your skills and understanding of painting in an enjoyable environment.
Due to time constraints, it is recommended that students visit the 2013 BP Portrait Award exhibition in their own time.
Suitable for over 18s, materials and refreshments are provided.
