Join us for an exclusive preview of what promises to be a must-see exhibition of 2013. Devoted to one of the most innovative and influential artists of his generation, Man Ray Portraits is the first major museum retrospective of the artist’s photographic portraits, featuring over 150 vintage prints from his career in America and Paris taken between 1916 and 1968. Drawn from private collections and major museums from the US and Europe, the majority of the works have not previously been exhibited in the UK.
The exhibition highlights Man Ray’s central position amongst the leading artists of the Dada and Surrealist movements and includes examples of Man Ray the artist’s revolutionary photographic techniques such as solarisation and early experiments with colour. His subjects in the exhibition range from friends to lovers and contemporaries, from Kiki de Montparnasse and Lee Miller to Pablo Picasso and Catherine Deneuve.
