Caroline Wilhelmina of Brandenburg-Ansbach when Queen Caroline
by and published by John Smith, after Sir Godfrey Kneller, Bt
For many Queen Caroline of Ansbach is a shadowy figure and her role in the early Hanoverian court mysterious and undefined. However by exploring the collections within the royal palaces a picture emerges of a clever, energetic woman, engaging in a lively and creative way with the worlds of the fashionable artist, architect and gardener, literary lions and natural philosophers.
This talk will introduce Caroline as a champion of the early English Enlightenment. Dr Marschner is Senior Curator, Historic Royal Palaces, and has special responsibility for Kensington Palace and its collections.
