Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson
by Samuel Laurence, and Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, 1st Bt
Alfred Lord Tennyson, b.1809 was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom during much of Queen Victoria's reign and remains one of the most popular British poets to this day.
His upbringing was tough as he was one of 12 children in a relatively poor family.
Poetry for him was a means of escape and his poems are often drawn from his life experiences and love of mythology.
The way he perceived the world, and how he was perceived by others is fascinating, and an interesting insight into his unique life.
