Roger Osborne discusses the new thinking on the economic and social aspects of the Industrial Revolution with an analysis of the brilliant technical work of a generation of artisans. In just four decades, the Industrial Revolution altered the fate of humanity, changing every aspect of life, from work and health to family structures, from transport to urban life. Osborne will show how and why this extraordinary episode came about, and why it happened in Britain in the late eighteenth century.

Roger Osborne is the author of a dozen books which give fresh insights into past events. His works include The Floating Egg: Episodes in the Making of Geology and Civilization: A New History of the Western World.
