Using a digital large-format camera, create portraits that re-imagine Man Ray’s experimental darkroom techniques during this weekend workshop with photographer Anthony Luvera.

The weekend starts with a guided tour of the Man Ray Portraits exhibition led by Anthony. He will highlight works which showcase Man Ray's experimentation and discuss his impact on photography. On your return to the studio you will discuss the darkroom processes and how these have been updated for the modern day. Anthony will introduce you to the 5x4 large format camera which has been specially adapted, making it digital.

Using lights and backdrops you will shoot portraits and learn about some of the traditional techniques Man Ray may have employed. You will be introduced to post-production software on the second day of the workshop and discover how simple techniques and effects can create stunning results. You will be encouraged to experiment, play and immerse yourself in darkroom techniques updated for the digital age and take away a new confidence in portrait photography.

Suitable for all levels, materials are provided.
