Photographed at the Hotel President, 62-72 Russell Square, London, these two studies were included in Norman Parkinson’s first major retrospective at the National Portrait Gallery in 1981.

The Gallery’s new exhibition Beatles to Bowie: the 60s exposed (15 October 2009 – 24 January 2010) will include Parkinson’s portraits of Adam Faith, Cliff Richard, and an image of Parkinson photographing The Beatles at Abbey Road studios.

A major retrospective celebrating Norman Parkinson’s long career and the publication of Louise Baring’s book Norman Parkinson: A Very British Glamour can be seen at Somerset House, 9 October 2009 – 31 January 2010. More Parkinson photographs can be seen in Room 33
