Poet. Born in Glasgow, Duffy read philosophy at Liverpool University and went on to lecture in poetry at Manchester Metropolitan University, where she is currently Creative Director of the Writing School. Her poetry collections include Standing Female Nude (1985), winner of a Scottish Arts Council Award and Mean Time  (1993), which won the Whitbread Poetry Award and the Forward Poetry Prize. Duffy's work is concerned with gender, contemporary culture and social equality. She was awarded an OBE in 1995; a CBE in 2001 and on 1 May 2009 became the first female Poet Laureate.

Adler has worked in the field of arts and documentary photography for over 25 years. Her recent work has included photographing the making of the films Moulin Rouge (2001) and Star Wars: Episode II (2002) and projects for The Australian Ballet. She has twice been awarded British Arts Photographer of the Year.
