Blake graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1956 and had his first solo exhibition at the Portal Gallery, London in 1962. Blake's work engaged with portraiture and mass culture and he became chronicler of the Pop Art scene, with work including the album cover for The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), with his then wife Jann Haworth. He is photographed here with the 1960s fashion model Marie-Lise Gres (1939-83) and his collage construction 'Love Wall' (1961, Gulbenkian Foundation).

Archival digital print from an original negative held at the Victoria and Albert Museum, 1961
