Isabella Blow
by Tim Noble, by Sue Webster
2002
NPG 6872

Journalist and stylist. Isabella Blow is credited with discovering and promoting the careers of designer Hussein Chalayan, milliner Philip Treacy, photographer Juergen Teller, and designer Alexander McQueen. Working for British and American Vogue, Tatler and The Sunday Times style magazine. Blow's own flamboyant style made her a muse for designers such as Alexander McQueen. In this portrait, a spotlight transforms an amorphous collection of objects into a silhouette of Blow's head. The artists, Sue Webster, and Tim Noble were fascinated by what they saw as Blow's gothic quality and chose to depict her as though on a stake.
