Find out more about the work of Laura Knight and discover how to paint portraits from life in this weekend-long workshop led by artist Anastasia Pollard. Pollard, a professional portraitist, trained at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Florence Academy of Art, and has exhibited in the BP Portrait Award exhibition four times, most recently in 2012.
You will take a closer look at Knight’s use of the impressionist technique; learn more about her ‘one touch’ method of painting with quick brush strokes and have a chance to understand how portraits are begun. Day one will include a visit into the exhibition Laura Knight Portraits as well as demonstrations and exercises, an introduction to sketching in paint and discussions on the use of oil paints and how to get the most out of a limited palette.
Day two will concentrate on painting from life and how to capture the essence of the model in a spontaneous manner. You will be able to take away the start of a portrait and a new confidence in approaching portraiture, inspired not only by Pollard but also by one of the twentieth century’s most prolific artists.
All materials are provided, includes refreshments.
