Little Sister
by Tim Okamura
Oil on canvas
2184 x 1625 mm
Okamura studied at Alberta College of Art and Design, Calgary, Canada and the School of Visual Arts, New York. His work has been seen in solo exhibitions in New York and Canadian cities and was included in the BP Portrait Award in 2001, 2002, 2004–6 and 2008–10.
This portrait is of Kassandra (left) and Jehrico (right) who are, in fact, sisters-in-law, but Kassandra is always referred to by Jericho as ‘little sister’. Okamura wanted to capture the girls’ beauty and ‘retro’ sense of fashion as well as the intimacy of their bond.
