Edward Sutcliffe studied art with art history at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and took a post-graduate diploma at Central Saint Martins, London. His work has been seen in group exhibitions in Seoul and London and was included in the BP Portrait Award in 2000, 2007, 2009 and 2010.
The portrait is of Glenda Jackson MP, who represents Sutcliffe’s constituency of Hampstead and Kilburn. The sitting took place in Jackson’s office in Westminster in November 2010. Sutcliffe says: ‘In the portrait I tried to convey humility with strength, attributes that Ms Jackson has in spades!’
