At the BP Portrait Award 2012 Awards Ceremony on 19 June 2012 the Young Artist Prize was awarded to Jamie Routley for Tony Lewis.
Jamie Routley was born in Newport, Wales and currently lives and works in London. After completing a BA (Hons) in illustration at Swindon College he studied in Florenceat the Charles H. Cecil Studios. His work has been seen in the Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibition (2011, 2012) and at Flowers East Gallery.
His portrait is of Tony, a newspaper vendor who also works in The Four Vintners wineshop. Routley says: ‘I didn’t set out to painta triptych, but I found with each painting there was more to say. It was a very intense and profound period for both of us.’
