David Holah and Stevie Stewart

Stroll through the Gallery for an alternative perspective on the collections with Queer Perspectives resident, artist Sadie Lee in conversation with the designer David Holah.

David Holah set up the pioneering fashion label Bodymap with partner Stevie Stewart. They designed costumes for Michael Clark's dance company and were commissioned to create pieces for the Ballet Rambert and the Royal Festival Ballet. Bodymap outfits are now displayed in museums worldwide, including the Victoria and Albert Museum.

In 2006, David Holah graduated from Camberwell College with an MA in Fine Art, making his mark as an extraordinary printmaker.  His work explores sexual identity and the social perception of gender roles. He is interested in exploring complex, subliminal elements that relate to his own history and personal sexual identity, and his interpretation of his feminine male role. He uses printmaking techniques to explore the glamour and decoration of fashion in an amusing and camp framework.
