Late Shift Extra: Salon de Lumière

Friday 15 March 2013
18.00 - 22.00

In partnership with FTI Consulting

Inspired by the Man Ray Portraits exhibition, visitors to Late Shift Extra: Salon de Lumière joined us in paying homage to Man Ray, the original ‘Master of Light’.

Activities on the night included:

  • Chris Levine’s bespoke light installation ‘Man by Ida by Chris’ and FusionBox AM’s soundscape filled the Ondaatje Wing Main Hall
  • Contemporary artist Susan Aldworth discussed her striking lenticular prints
  • Visitors asked themselves the Surrealist Andre Breton’s question ‘Who am I?’ in our photo booth
  • Drawing workshops were inspired by Man Ray’s iconic fashion images
  • Curator Charlotte Bolland revealed the new technologies which shed light on historic portraits
  • Surreal group photoshoots were transformed into digitally solarised images
  • Lomography workshops explored the beauty of film photography
  • A live 1920s inspired jazz performance from vocalist Hannah Northedge and pianist Matt Dibble transformed the Portrait Cafè
