Artists and Sitters: New display of the 1960–90 Collection

During this time it will be entirely re-hung with a new installation of portraits covering the period 1960–90. Continuing the unconventional approach first introduced in 2007, the new display will focus on groups of portraits by single artists. Artists and Sitters will explore contrasting styles, illuminating the diversity of approaches that characterises portraiture in the late 20th Century. Featured artists include Graham Sutherland, Bryan Organ, Tom Phillips and Maggi Hambling. Among highlighted recent acquisitions will be Barrie Cooke’s portrait of poet Ted Hughes and a major early self-portrait by Chris Ofili.
