The slightly open canvas weave can be seen in the x-ray image in the centre, along with the stitching that joins the two pieces of canvas. The infrared image on the right reveals that black paint was used to sketchily mark out the position of the figure and the drapery, with numerous changes to the position of the leg on the right in particular. The inscription in the lower-right corner is much clearer in the infrared image, and there are faint traces of the later inscription that misidentified the sitter, which was removed during conservation treatment in 1974.
