No pentimenti are visible in the x-ray in the centre, however, the fingers seem to have fairly loose brushstrokes that are different from those seen elsewhere in the painting, which may indicate early restoration. The white spot in the x-ray equates to a non-original piece of gilding on the surface in the collar, whilst the white area in the lower section is filler added during restoration work. The infrared reflectogram on the right reveals some underdrawing at the jawline, the forehead, the lapels, cuffs and tunic.
