The panel joins and the cradle on the reverse can be seen in the x-ray in the centre. The brushstrokes in the paint layers are very clear and the paint appears to have been applied quite rapidly. Underdrawing can be seen in the face, hair and costume in the digital infrared reflectogram on the right. The careful outlining of the features suggests that a pattern was used and then reinforced with tentative freehand lines in what appears to be a wet medium.
