These images include the original engaged frame from which the panel cannot be removed. Small scattered areas of retouching can be seen as dark spots over the varnish in the image taken in ultra violet light on the right. In the x-ray in the centre small areas of loss are also visible; for example, in the sitter's lips and on the knuckle of the thumb on the right. The range and variety of brushstrokes is clearly visible in x-ray and there are changes evident along the side of the hat and cheek.
