The woodgrain in the panel is clearly visible in the x-ray image in the centre, and the opaque line in the centre indicates the presence of 'included' sapwood rings, which have not converted to heartwood. The fleshpaint is softly blended and the lines of the shoulders have been raised slightly during painting. The infrared reflectogram on the right reveals that the outlines of the features have all been drawn in with fine lines, whilst the underdrawing in the costume is much looser.
