The x-ray in the centre shows the uneven wood grain that is typical of English oak boards, and the cradle (a wooden structural support) on the reverse. The left edge of the right-hand board has been trimmed, probably when the cradle was applied, and the lettering in the upper right is no longer aligned. The decorative detail was applied with a fine brush and is clear in the x-ray. The photograph taken in ultra violet light on the right shows the thick varnish and scattered areas of restoration, such as the strengthening of the inscription's first letters.
