The National Portrait Gallery’s exquisite ‘Tudors to Windsors’ touring exhibition comes to the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. This unique collection of British royal portraits gives visitors a rare opportunity to meet these famous historical and contemporary personalities face to face.
The exhibition traces many of the major events in British history, examining the ways in which royal portraits were impacted by both the personalities of individual monarchs and wider historical change. Combining the very best of British portraiture with the NPG’s expert scholarship, the exhibition explores five royal dynasties, from the Tudors to the Windsors, and include works by many of the most important artists to have worked in Britain, from Sir Peter Lely and Sir Godfrey Kneller to Cecil Beaton and Annie Leibovitz.
